Forklift Academy is a training and certification program that teaches operators how to work safely with powered industrial trucks. It is a requirement for anyone who works with forklifts, whether they are new hires or looking to change their jobs.

The program has two parts: classroom instruction and hands-on training. In the classroom, an instructor explains how to use different types of forklifts and discusses safety protocols. Once the classroom portion is complete, students take a written exam to test their knowledge. Depending on how the course is delivered, the training can be completed in one to four hours. Online training is self-paced and includes text and videos, while in-person classes are more like lectures with an instructor guiding participants through the lessons and answering questions.

While some companies offer forklift license programs that can be taken entirely online, most require trainees to attend a class in person with an instructor to get the hands-on training portion of the program. Theoretical exams are not a substitute for this hands-on experience, as they don’t give operators the skills to operate the equipment correctly.

Those who complete the forklift training can be awarded a forklift certification card. The card proves that the trainee has taken a course and passed a quiz on each lesson, as well as a comprehensive final exam to earn their certification.
